The Librarian’s Choice: February 2025

Already, the stores around my house are filling up with red and pink-themed items. Chocolates, candy, and anything even remotely heart-shaped adorns the shopping aisles as Valentines Day approaches. In light of that holiday, February’s The Librarian’s Choice are books that celebrate the beauty of relationships in fiction!

Ages 8-11: The Sign of the Beaver

Set in Maine following the French and Indian War, this story chronicles a young man’s adventures to survive in the wilderness. His friendship with a native Indian boy grows and sharpens them both as they forge a friendship that even their differences of religion and heritage can’t destroy. Ages 12-14: Renegade in the Hills

Josiah Eagle has been criticized his whole life because of his name. Not only was it not his fault that his father was a drunkard, thief, and outlaw, but it wasn’t his fault that he had the same name as that man. As much as Josiah hates his father, he makes one last desperate attempt to save his father’s life when a posse comes to illegally hang the man whose gold is supposedly buried in the mountain. As much as Josiah believes the rumors are false, mystery shrouds his father and the leader of the posse, Bart Gibson, who seems to have a hidden reason for wanting Josiah’s father dead.
