This month, I wanted to bring the classic story, The Pilgrim’s Progress, to light for all ages. Below are listed the original story along with two retellings for younger ages. I highly recommend reading this tale for yourself! Written in 1678 and titled The Pilgrim’s Progress From This World To That Which Is To Come, this allegorical story powerfully retells the life of a Christian who is faithful to God’s call. Easily enjoyed by all ages, this journey will enthrall you!

Ages 15+: The Pilgrim’s Progress
Experience the riveting story of one man’s journey from the City of Destruction to the Celestial City. As Christian encounters giants, lions, courtrooms, and enemies of the King, he must remain faithful to his calling and keep the light of the Celestial City ever before him. The saga of Christian, and his wife, Christiana, in the second part of the story, has encouraged and strengthened believers for years to remain true to the call of the King!

Ages 12-14: The Pilgrim’s Progress (Retold)
This classic story is brought to life in modern English by author Cheryl V. Ford. Her retelling keeps the timeless truths of the original while making it easier to read for younger children. It’s a perfect retelling for kids and adults alike, and a great read-aloud for the whole family! If you aren’t quite ready for the older-styled language of John Bunyan’s, Pilgrim’s Progress, then this beautiful book will be perfect for you!

Ages 8-11: Dangerous Journey
This ornate and beautiful picture-book will delight young readers! The story remains faithful to the original tale while keeping the intensity of the saga age-appropriate. While it may not be quite as easy for a younger child to read on their own, it is an incredible read-aloud for the whole family!

BONUS: The Pilgrim’s Progress Movie (2019):
I don’t normally recommend movies with the books, but this film was absolutely worth mentioning! Experience Christian’s riveting story in this movie as he abandons his former home in the City of Destruction to seek the Celestial City. Apollyon and his minions will do anything they can to stop a follower of the King, and Christian’s journey becomes a battle to keep the light of the Celestial City always before him. Viewers will not be disappointed.
